IEC Telecom supplies luxury yacht with discrete connectivity solution

15 Oct 2019

IEC Telecom has harnessed the power of modern design to fit discrete satellite communication connectivity to a luxury superyacht without detracting from the vessel’s sophisticated exterior design.

The French-based satcom specialist has installed a small and unobtrusive Thales VesseLINK terminal connected to the Iridium Certus network on the 100 foot yacht Chrisco.

Thales VesseLINK provides truly adaptable global communications for critical marine operations. Operating using the global Iridium Certus broadband services, it provides highly reliable mobile and essential voice, text and web communications whenever and wherever needed at-sea.

Chrisco was launched in 2009 by the superyacht division of CNB in France, with exterior lines by Luca Brenta. It was important for the owners that any equipment installed in the vessel met its high standards and blended with the clean lines of its ultra-modern interior.

IEC Telecom fitted discrete satcom equipment so as not to detract from the yacht’s light and bright interior, created by Wetzels Brown Partners of Amsterdam, that reflects futuristic exterior.

The privately-owned, state-of-the-art 95gt yacht, with a top speed of 10 knots, has already completed many voyages around the world – now its future journeys will be aided by the very latest in satellite communications.

“The antenna is on the first spreader on port and the diameter is smaller than our radar. All together it looks very small, which is important for the owner. Below deck in the navigation area is the new handset which is working very well and a lot faster than our old one. We are very happy,” reported its captain, Uwe Roch.
